Why should we bother to re-use & recycle some things?
The most important reasons for not throwing things away are:
Making things from recycled material can use less energy and cause less pollution.
Less space is needed to get rid of waste.
Less new material is needed to make things.
Many people do not like wasting things and would like them to be recycled.
Making aluminium cans from old ones uses only one twentieth of the energy that is needed to make them from raw materials.

The Earth provides all the things we buy and use. Making things uses up energy, can cause pollution and creates waste.
Every time we throw something away we add to this waste.
The average waste we produce in Staffordshire is made up of:
- Paper and Card 18%
- Kitchen Waste 18%
- Garden Waste 19%
- Plastic 7%
- Glass 9%
- Metal 7%
- Textiles 2%
- non-recyclables 20%
The main things that can be recycled in South Staffordshire are glass bottles and jars; food and drinks cans;
newspapers; magazines; card, Plastic bottles, clothes and other textiles.
