A.

  • Advice - contact South Staffordshire Council Recycling Helpline 01902 696203 / 696947, for advice on waste & recycling.
  • Aerosols - can be recycled in the Council’s can banks. Only put empty aerosols in these banks. Contact us for locations.

B.

  • Batteries - ordinary batteries can be disposed of with your ordinary rubbish. Recycle car batteries (they contain toxins)
    at Waste/Recycling Centres (CA sites). Return rechargeable batteries to manufacturers, watch & calculator batteries to jewellers;
    return hearing aid batteries to NHS.
  • Books - can be recycled in your kerbside white recycling sack.
  • Bottles & Glass Jars - reuse them yourself or recycle them in your kerbside green recycling box or at local Recycling Centres.
    Where possible buy things in refillable containers.
  • Business waste - see Office Wastes.
  • Bicycles - recycle your bicycles through a community scheme (Stafford area), Bicycle Recycling Project.

C.

  • Cans & food tins - recycle aluminium & steel cans in your kerbside green recycling box or at local Recycling Centres.
    Or if you are a school or community group, set up your own can collection to raise money by contacting Alupro.
  • Cardboard - can be recycled in your kerbside white recycling sack.
    Cars - scrap merchants are able to recycle old vehicles. Contact us for details of our money back scheme for safe disposal of your vehicle.
  • CD's - give to local Charities or post to
    Polymer Reprocesses, Reeds Lane, Moreton, Wirral CH46 1DW or reactivated, 13 Lime Street, Todmorden, Lancashire, OL14 5JN
  • Charity Shops - reuse and recycle many materials including clothes, which raise vital funds for details of local charity shops.
  • Clothing & Shoes - recycle them through Textile & Shoe banks at local Recycling Centres.
  • Compost & Organic Waste - fills 20% of the bin. Click here for the Councils reduced price home compost bins or put it in your green composting wheeled bin.
  • Computers - Try local community organisations, second hand shops & Charities or see Furniture.
  • Cookers, Washing Machines & other 'White Goods' - when buying a new one enquire if the retailer will collect the old one.

E.

  • Envelopes - reuse them using labels or recycle them in your kerbside white recycling sack.

F.

  • Fridges & Freezers - if they are saleable quality contact local furniture projects, see Furniture, or contact us for a disposal service & removal of CFC gases to prevent damage to the ozone layer. When buying a new one enquire if the retailer will collect the old one for recycling.
  • Foil - aluminium foil such as food cases, cooking foil & some local Charities and schools to raise money collect milk bottle tops. Enquire locally or contact Alupro to set up your own collection.
  • Furniture & Soft Furnishings – reduce bulky waste by advertising items on the Councils free Internet Bulky Waste Exchange Site
    or contact your local Charity. If in good order recycle them through local furniture projects, which pass on unwanted furniture to families
    on low incomes. Soft furnishings, such as sofas, must be fire retardant:

H.

  • Hazardous Waste – waste that is of a hazards nature cannot be collected with normal domestic waste. contact South Staffordshire Council for more information on disposal.
  • Household Items - take unwanted items to local charity shops.

  • Ink Jet, Laser & Toner Cartridges etc. - can be recycled to raise funds or refilled by many suppliers.
    Contact your local Charities to see if they run a scheme as many charities provide freepost envelopes or visit Recycle Now.

  • Junk Mail – recycle in your white recycling sack or reduce this by contacting The Mailing Preference Service,

M.

  • Medicines & Tablets - contact your local chemist or pharmacy. Do not flush them down toilets or empty into drains.
    Follow manufactures advice for disposal.
  • Mobile Phones - can be recycled. Ask your local Charity shop or supermarket or visit Recycle Now.

  • Nappies - 4% of our waste is disposable nappies. Replace these with real nappies.
    Click here for details of our cash back scheme of up to £30.00 for using cloth nappies.
  • Newspapers, Magazines, Junk Mail, Cards, Catalogues, White Telephone Directories and all other White Paper - this is 40% of the bin. Recycle them using your local paper bank or the Councils kerbside white recycling sack. Some schools collect paper in South Staffordshire which raises money for the school. Contact your local school.

  • Plastics - reuse carrier bags when you visit the supermarket or reuse them as bin liners.
    Plastic cups & bottles can be reused as containers in the home. Some supermarkets provide recycling points for used carrier bags.
    Plastic bottle recycling - Plastic bottles can be recycled in your kerbside green recycling box.

  • Scrap Store - Playaway Scrap Store – providing scrap to Staffordshire Youth Groups,
    schools and individual families for free. Contact Staffordshire Community Council for more details.
  • Soil & Rubble - reused through Waste/Recycling Centres.
  • Spectacles - ask your optician if they reuse old spectacles or for local recycling schemes.
  • Stamps - most Charities take old stamps.

    They urgently need carpentry, metalworking & bicycle repair tools.

  • Yellow Pages – recycle in your kerbside white recycling sack. Directories contain a large quantity of yellow ink
